Priceless Gift

Hospice volunteers give a priceless gift to those who are affected by end-of-life challenges.  They are ordinary people who make an extraordinary difference.

Our volunteers will be the greatest strengths of our organization. Through their dedication and kindness, we will be able to support palliative and caregiver clients and their families throughout Perth County.

Volunteers do not need to be healthcare providers to support others.  Listening is the most valuable skill and responsibility.  Volunteer support may be provided at home, in hospital and in facilities such as nursing homes and Stratford Perth Hospice. Our volunteers will care for people of all ages and backgrounds, with many types of illnesses and losses.

In an effort to serve and include the many cultures and groups residing in our community, Stratford Perth Hospice welcomes volunteer applicants who reflect the wide diversity of our citizens.

Due to the sensitive nature of our service, volunteers will be required to participate in a thorough screening process which includes an interview, reference check, vulnerable police record check and health screening. Once successfully completed, volunteers will participate in a 30-hour comprehensive training and orientation program to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge they need to provide outstanding care to the residents in our Hospice.

Whether you want to help others, meet new people or develop new skills – volunteering can enrich your life. With both short and long term volunteer opportunities, we will find a mutually agreed-upon role that matches your interests, skills and availability with the needs of the Hospice.

Here are just a few examples of volunteer roles:

  • Therapeutic Touch or Reiki
  • Massage therapy
  • Palliative visiting/Caregiver respite
  • Grief or Caregiver Group facilitator
  • One-to-one client support
  • Art Therapy program support
  • Committee volunteer (various committees)
  • Team Captains (communication support)
  • Kitchen (cooking/baking)
  • Receptionist
  • Fundraising Event support volunteer
  • Garden Maintenance volunteer and much, much more!

No matter the role, we appreciate all that our volunteers do!
